Ship Conventions |
*[[Ship Conventions]] |
||
Ulayavi ships tend to be more vertically oriented for military ships and more horizontally oriented for civilian models. Both often feature a domed section of hull and military vessels or up-armed civilian ships often go for powerful gravity-based tractor beams. |
|||
Military ships tend to be gold-plated on their metallic portions, both for the anti-radiation properties and conductivity of the material and as a conscious insult to krakun sensibilities. Being a common metal on Ayavi and in many systems, gold is often equivalent to iron in value. |
|||
Civilian ships tend to use cheaper options like radiation ablative ceramics, which often lend a creamy white or brown and gold appearance to their vessels. Domed sections are typically upper decks, a slight anthropomorphization in relation to ul' anatomy, including the forward control stations being shaped to resemble the long, tapered ulayavi head, while the bridge is often located just above the center of gravity. |
|||
The most well-known ship of the Ulayavi military is the Star Defender, massive shield ships with emphasis on defensive capability, but able to use a complex tractor beam system to rip enemy ships and stations apart at close to medium ranges. Their radial designs have largely gone unchanged for the last 600 years. |
|||
The Ulayavi are presently experimenting with the creation of city-ships, at the behest of the Stellar Nomad Collective, a project favored by both Worlders and Spacers alike. Currently, there are 8 hulls planned, each named after a star in Ul' space. |

"People, Politics, and Capital. These are our pillars of balance. There is no separation from governance, matrons. If we are divided, they will conquer us." ~ Zhonshi the Adamant, Mythical figure of the Unification Wars
The Ayavi Polity is the governing body composed of systems claimed by the ulayavi and greater palowan diaspora, separated cosmographically by the Dark Star Range from the Krakun Empire and politically by a de facto Neutral Zone between Ayavi and Krakun space, born of the inability of either side to invade past the strategic chokepoint of the Shax Corridor.
The Polity is organized into a series of largely horizontal, tiered Council Democracies, where each tier elects representatives for the tier above them, who vote for leaders in the tier above them, and so forth. Leaders would select amongst each other for specialized roles, and the system is enforced by the ability of each tier below being able to recall leaders from the tiers above. If a leader is not serving the interests of their people, then those people can get together and fire their leader.
Common access to voting machines allows quick dissemination of political topics and ballot measures, with most public property containing at least one such station. This is primarily practiced on the core worlds, though some planets maintain characteristics that alter or restrict certain voting blocs, depending on their circumstances.
Amongst Spacers (Palowan), there tends to be far more variation in governance and leadership. Though ideally meritorious, the most similar structure to the way Worlders practice governance is maintained by the Ayavi Polity Navy (APN), albeit with a triune executive council of Star Marshals representing Space, Planetary, and Special Forces.
Nomads tend to form governments around family groups, with some even having outright monarchies.
Governments tend to use matriarchal terms, owing to women having a historical role in governance. For example, the Ullang term for "Sergeant" literally translates to "Battle Mama."

Companies and Corporations
Planetary Acquisitions, Inc.
Krakuntec-based corporation, originally founded as a private space exploration company, sending krakun out "the long way" before the geordians were discovered and gates integrated into their technologies. Came into prominence very quickly when they expanded their fleet hundreds of times over with slave vessels, multiplying even further with each new species discovered, leading to the current age of galactic expansion. Very tightly-knit with the business of the Empire as a whole. Despite their close ties with the Imperial War Authority, Planetary Acquisitions goes out of its way to not get involved in military-scale conflicts. All of its underhanded dealings are performed with a limited amount of armed forces; any large-scale conflicts are handled by the War Authority or Orbital Defense.
Founder of Worlds Technologies
Rival to Planetary Acquisitions, founded several thousand years after the discovery of gates. Primarily exists in opposition to Planetary Acquisitions in an effort to steal their market share and government contracts. While this animosity could easily boil over into outright conflict, krakun laws against corporate espionage means that any such conflicts must be carried out in absolute secrecy.
