Ship Conventions

From Hayven Celestia

Ulayavi ships tend to be more vertically oriented for military ships and more horizontally oriented for civilian and non-combat models. Both often feature a domed section of hull and military vessels or up-armed civilian ships often go for powerful gravity-based tractor beams.

Military ships tend to be gold-plated on their metallic portions, both for the anti-radiation properties and conductivity of the material and as a conscious insult to krakun sensibilities. Being a common metal on Ayavi and in many systems, gold is often equivalent to iron in value.

Civilian ships tend to use cheaper options like radiation ablative ceramics, which often lend a creamy white or brown and gold appearance to their vessels. Domed sections are typically upper decks, a slight anthropomorphization in relation to ul' anatomy, including the forward control stations being shaped to resemble the long, tapered ulayavi head, while the bridge is often located just above the center of gravity.

The most well-known ship of the Ulayavi military is the Star Defender, massive shield ships with emphasis on defensive capability, but able to use a complex tractor beam system to rip enemy ships and stations apart at close to medium ranges. Their radial designs have largely gone unchanged for the last 600 years.

The Ulayavi are presently experimenting with the creation of city-ships, at the behest of the Stellar Nomad Collective, a project favored by both Worlders and Spacers alike. Currently, there are 8 hulls planned, each named after a star in Ul' space.
