Writing for Lio

When writing for lio, refer to the pinned species sheet. For everything else, please keep the following facts in mind.

Religion and Culture

  • Lio are highly multicultural. The lio themselves have many traditions from many cultures--some more reserved and some more liberal. This is one of the factors that has allowed lio to integrate so many other species into their alliance, though their generosity has limits.
  • Some things are near-universal across all lio cultures, however. For one, they have a (state-approved) world religion called Jiahnism--a combination of four major religions into one. This has been the dominant form of religion for several thousand years and is not seen as a form of cultural domination by the lio.
  • In fact, lio prefer to frame all religions as fitting under the umbrella of Jiahnism. This has caused some friction, as other species (especially the mysa) do feel like their culture is being overwritten by lio culture.
  • Lio pride themselves on physical prowess. They are not afraid to get rowdy or physical with one another and have a large variety of sports, combat and otherwise. Even lio who could be classified as nerds tend to be highly active and physical.
  • Lio cities are typically very clean and well-designed... at least, the lio parts of them are.

Military and the War

  • The lio take pride in resisting the krakun for 1200 years--they are very adamant about never surrendering.
  • The lio do not have a universal draft. Nevertheless, pride and honor compel thousands and thousands of young lio to join the military every year, and many choose to stay long past their minimum service time.
  • While the lio military prefers to operate on its own with lio soldiers only, they have found use in integrating other species into their ranks. Mysa, for example, serve as engineers among many of their ships as their small size makes them ideal for navigating tight and cramped corridors, allowing ships to be built with much leaner specifications.
