Writing for Geroo
When writing for geroo, refer to the pinned species sheet. For everything else, please keep the following facts in mind.

Rarity
* Despite being the cornerstone species for the setting, there are not a lot of geroo in the galaxy. A huge portion of geroo are employed by Planetary Acquisitions, many are traded in krakun slave markets, there are some colonies on lio-friendly worlds, etc. but the actual number of geroo following the destruction of Gerootec to the present era is only in the millions, while most species are in the billions.
* Thus, many places in the galaxy have never run across a geroo in person before and may be unfamiliar with them. In some places if a geroo is present, they may be the only one.

Strands
* Strands are communicators/computer terminals/wallets worn in a holster on the left bicep (typically).
* Geroo picked up the habit of having/using strands after first contact with the krakun. While it is not an absolute necessity, even outside of their employment to Planetary Acquisitions, geroo feel safer when they have a strand due to the connectivity to others it provides.
* The geroo call their communicators strands because the connectedness they feel "weaves the people into a tapestry."
** While the geroo think this is their own original concept, the fact that geordians, who discovered the geroo, also call their communicators "strands" lends some credence to alternative theories.
* When sitting down with friends, geroo consider it polite to remove their strands and set them face down on the table to indicate "you have my full attention."
* Currency (used aboard Planetary Acquisitions ships only) - Credits (written ₢5 to indicate five credits) are stored electronically on their strands. Geroo transfer money from one strand to another by tapping them together.

Religion and Culture
* Geroo religion is non-organized. There are no priests, there are no temples, and there are no sacred texts. Geroo rarely even write about their own religion or metaphysics--almost all religious matters are a matter of custom, and even atheists will follow the customs anyway.
* Religion is centered around ancestor worship. Time was, during the Gerootec days, this was mixed with a worship of gods, but the gods fell by the wayside after Exodus.
* The most religious artifacts geroo collect are necklaces and shrines. Without exception, all geroo wear necklaces. Shrines are where geroo place the necklaces of their departed family members (or copies thereof) to represent them.
* The amount of beads a geroo has on their necklace is technically not fixed. There are still some rules surrounding it, though.
** The exact rules and practices surrounding bead type and count will vary from local culture to local culture.
** There are an absolute minimum of two beads on a geroo necklace, but most geroo will have a minimum of three.
** Male geroo wear fewer beads than female geroo. What "fewer" means can vary depending on local culture, but this roughly translates to five or fewer for males and seven or more for females. This is fully relative, however; a geroo culture might have a custom of lots of beads, and so males could have 15 or less and females 20 or more, or some other designation. Another culture may overlap and males would have seven or less and females five or more. Still others may have no fixed numbers and operate solely on vibes (though it'll usually still settle on a "normal" range)
*** However, this is also only a general rule; there is no law stating that males or females must have any designated number; it only feels more masculine or feminine to have fewer or more beads.
*** Androgynous or gender ambiguous geroo will often take an amount of beads between both customary male and female numbers.
* Geroo believe in direct soul-to-soul reincarnation. The precise mechanics of this are left ambiguous--geroo may hold many different beliefs, even multiple and contradictory beliefs about what really happens to the soul after death. These may range from other species not having souls (geroo are special), to other species souls being valid (someone particularly wicked may have a krakun's soul), to souls being judged for their deeds (and sent to hells or heavens while also, somehow, being reincarnated), to souls being fixed in number (a common belief among PA employees), etc.
* Geroo exchange beads with their pairbonded mate. It is typically custom to only ever exchange one bead at a time, though geroo are not strangers to having additional partners even if they don't publicly acknowledge it.

The Matodea are a species of insect currently being developed by Ulexite Herkimer. They are not yet canon or featured in any works.

Anatomy
* Matodea are tall and lanky, largely resembling a combination of stick insects and praying mantises. On average, matodea stand just under three meters in height and weigh around 120 kilograms. Though the size of matodea depends greatly on their living conditions. Particularly healthy matodea can reach nearly four meters.
* Matodea have two sets of wings; one on the upper back near the shoulders, and one right above the hips. These wings are typically very large, with the total wingspan of either set matching the height of the matodea.
* Matodea themselves typically have green, brown, or gray exoskeletons, but their wings can sport all varieties of colors and patterns in a manner comparable to stained glass.
** Matodea are able to dye their wings into specific patterns and colors, but this is somewhat uncommon due to societal superstitions.
* Their eyes can see anything in a 360 range around them, but their most effective field of vision is about the same as most other creatures; half as much if they are looking to their sides or behind them.
** This generally results in the effect of matodea seeing a lot out of the corner of their eye, but only being able to fully comprehend what they’re directly viewing.
*** Some matodea are better at this than others, which can be considered a very important skill for certain lines of work.

Limited musculature
* Matodea are naturally strong, but cannot match the strength of other species their size. Typically, a matodea can lift up to their body weight and, with significant training, slightly more. This limitation typically results in a heavy reliance on machines to do hard labor.

Photosynthesis
* Unlike most species, matodea derive the majority of their energy from sunlight. This comes from a natural process in which matodea eat plants to absorb their chloroplasts. Some plants are better for this than others, but it typically results in matodea only needing to eat once a week. Matodea then typically need about two to three hours of sunlight to stay healthy, as well as eight hours of sleep. Matodea don't need to sleep while sunbathing, but it is certainly nice.
** Matodea still need to drink water just as often as other species.
* The process of photosynthesis is performed primarily through absorbing sunlight in the wings. Some sunlight is absorbed naturally through the exoskeleton, but not enough to keep a matodea alive, much less healthy.
** Matodea that lack wings require prosthetic membranes that act as replacements, or else they will die in much the same way another creature might starve.
* Matodea can take energy from ultra-violet lights and other forms of manufactured sunlight, but this is unhealthy for them and matodea don’t see it as proper nourishment. It’s equivalent to how other species would see fast food.
** Matodea are also able to absorb particularly low-energy laser weapons but the ranges this can occur are extremely slim and even within that range they still pose significant danger under frequent or extended contact.

Culture
* Matodea are largely social and easygoing, often to the point of being stereotyped as lazy and naive. This is largely untrue and based primarily on the fact that matodea are legally required breaks during work to rest in the sun, which they often use to socialize, nap, or work on personal projects.
* Matodea are widely superstitious, but don't hold any belief of gods or higher powers. One example of this in their belief that the colors and shapes in one's wing can reveal details about their future, like palm reading.
* Art and self-expression is very important in larger matodea culture. Most will pick up some form of passion for the arts in one way or another.
* Nature is also held in a very high regard and most matodea will try to infringe on it as little as possible. This can often lead to issues regarding structural development but matodea are willing to bend nature around their needs in this regard.

The Krakun
* The krakun, largely, do not see matodea as worthwhile or lucrative slaves due to their limited musculature and need to spend time under sunlight, but some see them as low investment and low maintenance.
** Some particularly cruel krakun collect and display the wings or even bodies of deceased matodea they find pretty. Even among the krakun this is seen as disturbing.
* Many of the krakun who do enslave matodea will deny them proper sunlight and instead provide faux sun rooms. As stated earlier, this can work but is very unhealthy and can stunt growth.

Internal Voice
* Matodea think differently from most other species. Not exactly in what they think about, but in how they think it. Most matodea hear their internal voice as several different, possibly conflicting voices that discuss amongst themselves.
* This can sometimes leave matodea slow to respond, especially when faced with difficult choices.
* This doesn't prevent Matodea from understanding or empathizing how other creatures feel or think.

There are many sentient races in the Hayven Celestia universe. With only a few exceptions, most planets that support intelligent life only bring about one form of it, and so unless noted each race has exactly one native homeworld. While intelligent life is relatively rare, the galaxy is a very big place and has been explored for a very long time and so possesses an abundance of examples.
Canon Species
Species which have appeared in published works

Anup
* Tall (~3m) canid race with long ears and uniformly short, dark fur.
* Bromine atmosphere
* Find it very impolite (overly intimate) to use hands in direct reference to others, including touching, pointing, or making gestures. Instead, they use rods for such actions.
* Anup rods are plated with a highly conductive gold alloy and are heavily personalized; since the computer age they encode their rods with a digital signature in lieu of using a pawprint or other method of identification.

Arrunian
* Avian race capable of flight. ~4m long, two legs, two wings, walks on talons and "hands" of wings
* Chlorine atmosphere

Coosa
* Tanuki-like species, short, ~1.1m tall. Have very round and bouncy bodies.
* Ammonia atmosphere
* Very arboreal

Geordian
* Medium-sized (~1.7m) felid race, typically have stripes.
* Ammonia atmosphere
* Geordians were the first species to discover how to harness wormhole gates and built a great civilization, but they have since collapsed and are now vassals of the krakun.

Geroo
* Medium-sized (~1.8m) kangaroo-like species, but with canine traits.
* Oxygen atmosphere
* Typically wear beaded necklaces and tail rings. Often wear strands on their armbands.
* Geroo Religion and Lore

Hekiru
* Small-sized (~1.2m - 1.5m) vulpine race.
* Sulfur atmosphere
* Largely non-verbal. Native Hekirunese is solely sign language with occasional chirps and chitters. Nevertheless, they can be taught to speak other languages.

Ittriani

Krakun
* Absolutely enormous (~12m to shoulder, ~36m to tail) draconic race that walks on all fours known for being resilient, intelligent, and very very long-lived.
* Sulfur atmosphere

Kyacaotl
* Canine race standing around 1.8 meters in height.
* Chlorine atmopshere
* Wear masks to conceal faces as a cultural religious tradition, those without masks are seen as outcasts or slaves.
* Worship a goddess named Alamanotl, there are smaller children gods of hers which are also revered such as Shino (Wisdom) and Shaolyotl.

Lio
* Tall (~2.2m) leonine race that grows famously long manes.
* Oxygen Atmosphere

Meeri

Mysa
* Very small (~0.4m) mouse-like race, usually living within the slums of Liotec.
* Oxygen atmosphere

Ringel
* Short (~1.4m) lemurian race with long ringed tails.
* Oxygen atmosphere
* Known galaxy-wide for being extremely open in regards to sex

Ssarith
* Very tall (~4.5m at rest, ~13.5m head to tailtip) naga-like species.
* Carbon atmosphere
* The "ss" is sharp, and their species name is properly written as ßarith. (you do not actually need to do this)

Sourang
* Long-bodied species (~3.7m tall) largely considered vermin by the krakun, but in actuality fully intelligent and civilized.
* Native atmosphere irrelevant--sourang can adapt their bodies to live in any atmosphere.
* Able to modify their own DNA.

Turek
* Mysterious saurian race (~3.6m tall) known largely by reputation, enemy of the krakun
* Fluorine atmosphere

Ulayavi
*Pangoloid race. Average 1 meter tall, with 1 meter tongue and tail length. Weighty enough that walking requires a crouched position.
*Covered in keratinous scales, often painted either as art or to communicate stories and achievements.
*Tails are long enough in length to allow full coverage when curled and rolling for movement.
*Increased resistance to disorientation as an adaptation for rolling.
*Oxygen breathing. Tolerant to gravity up to 1.5 Galactic Normal.

Umbran
* Ursine species (~3.4m but with great variation in height)
* Oxygen atmosphere

Established Species
Katakori
* "Tree squirrel" sapient species.

Montrose
* Moongose-like species. Males are ~1.5m tall, females are ~2.1m tall.
* Carbon atmosphere
* Female-dominated species, though males outnumber females 2-to-1

Polatosha
* "Flying squirrel" sapient species.

Tryonn
* Fuzzy shark species. No set size; size is instead based on their diet, but military service usually pegs adults around ~2m in height
* Chlorine atmosphere
* Tryonn spend the majority of their time in the water and can breathe water while swimming; they prefer this to living on land.

Proposed Species
Fisi

Haske
*sabertooth tiger race.
*medium-sized, long furred, and adapted to live in frigid environments

Notes on atmospheric compatibility
For purposes of simplicity, atmospheres settle into a number of "types". While these types are not precisely exact, they are close enough to allow some species to share atmospheres. Most atmospheres have a mixture of oxygen and inert gas (usually nitrogen) in their chemistry. The listed chemical or element is not the raw elemental chemical--it is just the basis by which the rest of the atmosphere is built. For instance, while elemental chlorine is very dangerous for all sorts of reasons, atmospheric chlorine is more-or-less like an overzealous pool cleaner.

Also note these divisions are not the full story. For instance, while sulfuric atmosphere contact is bad for most species, geroo experience it worse than others--while other species will experience burns and hair loss after prolonged contact, geroo will experience this almost immediately. Similarly, while most species can "breathe" oxygen atmospheres for a few minutes, krakun can survive in these atmospheres for multiple hours.

Atmospheres are not the only issue, either. Water from these respective environments are different--the tryonn, being a largely water-based species, also will have similar issues with breathing the water of other atmospheres. For the most part, water from non-compatible atmospheres is poisoned, either minorly or majorly, and would need to be "purified" to be drinkable for species from other atmospheres.

Surgery is utilised to overcome limited atmospheric issues. While there is no specified limit, canon surgery workarounds exist up to the 'Non-Breathable, Full Contact Okay' category for logical reasons of contact issues. Genetic modification technology is not enough to make another species compatible, except explicitly for the sourang, which is intended to be the exception and not the norm. Read the species to learn more. Surgery has so far included preventative to mitigate exposure for 'Non-Breathable, Full Contact Okay', and supplementing for 'Temporarily Survivable' atmosphere, where the atmosphere lacks the required compounds for survival.

Food is another matter entirely. Some amino acids are universal. Some foods, like javea, can be shared across multiple species, but a good bulk of foods are specific for individual species. It is possible to find krakun food that is edible for geroo, but the more incompatible the atmospheres, the rarer the potential food sources get.

* Some atmosphere types proposed but not used yet: Methane, Phosphorous

Typically, a matodea can lift up to their body weight and with significant training, slightly more.

* Matodea themselves typically have green or brown exoskeletons, but their wings can sport all varieties of colors and patterns in a manner comparable to stained glass.
** Matodea are able to tattoo their wings into specific patterns and colors, but this is somewhat uncommon due to societal superstitions.

Typically, a matodea can lift up to their body weight and with significant training, slightly more.

* Matodea can take energy from ultra-violet lights and other manufactured rays, but this is unhealthy for them and matodea don’t see it as proper nourishment.

This is largely untrue and based primarily on the fact that matodea are legally required breaks during work to rest in the sun.

Writing for Ringel
When writing for ringel, refer to the pinned species sheet. For everything else, please keep the following facts in mind.

Sexuality
* ha ha yes ringel are the sex species. That said, it is 100% preferred to be at least a little restrained in this dimension. Yes, ringel have sex casually, frequently, and in the open. This doesn't mean they have no rules surrounding sex, though.
* Sex can be forbidden in areas, especially food preparation and serious meetings the like. As a consideration, though, ringel are typically given designated breaks/zones for it. (I did say a little restrained).
* Ringel sexuality is only partly instinctual, and a lot of it is cultural. Ringel not acclimated to their own culture can be just as reserved and anxious about sex as the species they grew up around (and in many ways, vise versa)
* Ringel are allowed to have hobbies outside of sex. In fact, this is encouraged. However, most will still find sex an important underpinning of their identity and do not appreciate being involuntarily restrained from practicing it (much to the krakuns' chagrin)
* Most ringel are not raunchy and perverted on purpose--what they are, though, is a product of their society. Ringel language and culture is very open and frank about all sorts of things, and so a ringel talking in a way that'd seem dirty to other species is to them just how you communicate normally, without any intent of riling people up. That said, many ringel find the prudishness of other species funny and may for that reason provoke them on purpose.
* Ringel do pairbond like other species, though of course the mechanics are much looser. Sex is a non-factor for these relationships, and in fact the ringel may bear the kits of those other than their mate without question or incident--the prerogative is always that of the mother.
* NSFW CONTENT WARNING - For further details on ringel sexuality, view Ringel_sexual_practices. Be warned that there will be a lot of exposed ringel genitalia and that even though the ringel might be ok with seeing someone open such an image in a public or workplace setting, real people and workplaces won't be.

Religion
* Ringel are typically nonreligious with a few exceptions.
* There is a pervasive superstitious belief in fae and small gods. Normally, these do not affect a ringel's behavior save that many are respectful of these spirits and try not to anger them. Shrines, many with statues, images or icons, some even built spontaneously overnight, are quite common in cities and the countryside. Many shrines are haphazard and temporary in construction but are maintained by some who adopt the shrines, or ringel who happen to be passing by. Ringel will often give offerings to these even if they have no idea who or what it's for.
* Occasionally, ringel will develop cults. These almost never grow beyond a single insular community, and mainstream ringel society reacts to cult behavior with a massive eye-roll.

Piracy
* Ringeltec is a planet with many islands and few continents. As such, early in their history, all ringel cultures developed a seafaring tradition. This tradition is still considered part of the ringel golden age and is a major cultural touchstone for all ringel societies.
* This has resulted in modern ringel preferring to organize themselves into privateer forces, even within their own militaries. Ships will typically act independently and enact raids on their own, but may be pressed into combining forces by their governor.

In Alphabetical Order
Note: You can always break the rules. Just run it by someone before final drafting.

Transcription
* Accents - Nothing so heavy as to be indistinguishable from gibberish, unless it's a language not yet in the translators.

* Gender for turek and ssarith - Turek and ssarith do not have a concept of gender. That does not mean you have to use they/them. Do it based on the POV character's vibes. If the POV character is a ssarith or a turek, they're going to see all members of their own species the same way gender-wise—as in, entirely uniform—so you pick a pronoun and use the same pronoun for that species through the entire thing. They may get confused over someone else's gender because the concept doesn't innately register to them.

* Hands - Use paws, claws, or whatever is appropriate to the species over hands. Or if writing an anup, don't mention them at all, pervert.
** Exceptions - Words like handed, handling, handsome, handedly, etc. If it's a handy verb or adjective, probably doesn't need adjusting.
*** Exceptions to the exceptions - Punning is pawesome.

* Man/Woman - No humans here. Use male, female, enby, or species name. You can use terms like "lady" for the vibes, but do so sparingly or try to find an alternative.

* Measurements - Metric system is preferred.
** Exceptions - Beer can be measured in pints because metric doesn't have a convenient term for 470ml.

* Nose - Functional, but consider snouts, snoots, proboscis, or even antennae as appropriate.

* Puns - As many as you can! Make Gre7g suffer!

Typesetting
* All Caps - Use for signage if applicable; otherwise emphasize using italics.
* Bold - At your own risk. In other stories, bold is sometimes used in standalone centered text like reading out signage, but it's preferred not to use it in-line.
* Drop Caps - Don't use while drafting, this is final polish formatting.
* Italics - For emphasis, titles (books and ship names, not personal titles), thoughts (without quotations), alternative communiques (lip reading, chemical signals, flash [morse] code). In a line of italics, un-italicize to indicate emphasis.
** ex: We need to infiltrate the White Flower II in order to acquire their delicious fruit pies, she thought.
* Small Caps - Used to denote the beginning of a chapter or passage depending on layout style, with the first x words put into small caps for visual weight. Don't use while drafting, this is a final polish formatting.
* Underline - Underlining is not preferred in general fiction for any reason--traditionally, underlining text in manuscripts told the typesetter to italicize the text. Since now we can just format directly in word processors, there is no need to do this anymore.

Canon Species
Species which have appeared in published works

Anup
* Tall (~3m) canid race with long ears and uniformly short, dark fur.
* Bromine atmosphere

* Chlorine atmosphere

Coosa
* Tanuki-like species, short, ~1.1m tall. Have very round and bouncy bodies.
* Ammonia atmosphere
* Very arboreal

Geordian
* Medium-sized (~1.7m) felid race, typically have stripes.
* Ammonia atmosphere
* Geordians were the first species to discover how to harness wormhole gates and built a great civilization, but they have since collapsed and are now vassals of the krakun.

Geroo
* Medium-sized (~1.8m) kangaroo-like species, but with canine traits.
* Oxygen atmosphere
* Typically wear beaded necklaces and tail rings. Often wear strands on their armbands.
* Geroo Religion and Lore

Hekiru
* Small-sized (~1.2m - 1.5m) vulpine race.
* Sulfur atmosphere

* Sulfur atmosphere

Kyacaotl
* Canine race standing around 1.8 meters in height.
* Chlorine atmopshere

* Oxygen Atmosphere

Meeri

Mysa
* Very small (~0.4m) mouse-like race, usually living within the slums of Liotec.
* Oxygen atmosphere

Ringel
* Short (~1.4m) lemurian race with long ringed tails.
* Oxygen atmosphere
* Known galaxy-wide for being extremely open in regards to sex

Ssarith
* Very tall (~4.5m at rest, ~13.5m head to tailtip) naga-like species.
* Carbon atmosphere

* Fluorine atmosphere

Umbran

* Bromine atmosphere

* Chlorine atmosphere

Coosa
* Tanuki-like species, short, ~1.1m tall. Have very round and bouncy bodies.
* Ammonia atmosphere
* Very arboreal

Geordian
* Medium-sized (~1.7m) felid race, typically have stripes.
* Ammonia atmosphere
* Geordians were the first species to discover how to harness wormhole gates and built a great civilization, but they have since collapsed and are now vassals of the krakun.

Geroo
* Medium-sized (~1.8m) kangaroo-like species, but with canine traits.
* Oxygen atmosphere
* Typically wear beaded necklaces and tail rings. Often wear strands on their armbands.
* Geroo Religion and Lore

Hekiru
* Small-sized (~1.2m - 1.5m) vulpine race.
* Sulfur atmosphere

* Sulfur atmosphere

Kyacaotl
* Canine race standing around 1.8 meters in height.
* Chlorine atmopshere

* Oxygen Atmosphere

Meeri

Mysa
* Very small (~0.4m) mouse-like race, usually living within the slums of Liotec.
* Oxygen atmosphere

Ringel
* Short (~1.4m) lemurian race with long ringed tails.
* Oxygen atmosphere
* Known galaxy-wide for being extremely open in regards to sex

Ssarith
* Very tall (~4.5m at rest, ~13.5m head to tailtip) naga-like species.
* Carbon atmosphere

* Fluorine atmosphere

* Bolding - At your own risk.
The ssarith were developed by Rick Griffin while adapting story ideas from the undeveloped story concept Snakes Conquer Earth to Hayven Celestia. Previous to their appearance in Hayven Celestia, the ssarith (not named such yet) appeared in the short story Sissthra. (Please don't look it up, it's not that good.) The ssarith first appeared in Hayven Celestia in the game Under One Sky.

Writing for Ssarith
When writing for ssarith, refer to the pinned species sheet. For everything else, please keep the following facts in mind.

Homeworld
The home planet of the ssarith is ShoMosku. In the present, it is predicted to be destroyed in about one thousand three hundred years. Most, if not all ssarith, are currently working to preserve their culture as they work to evacuate the planet and seek a new home.

Reproduction
Ssarith are an egg laying species who lay on a seasonal basis. The ssarith do not have any genders, all members could lay eggs. Ssarith reproduce asexually. Instead of exchanging or depositing specific cells made for reproduction, any cells from another ssarith, introduced anywhere in the body, can be used. DNA is stripped from cell material and then chromosome pairs are recombined. This can be done an arbitrary number of times with additional material. The success rate can be somewhat low as a result but it results in an offspring with one, up to an arbitrary number of parents. Ssarith don't track their family through parentage, they track by clutch. Parthenogenesis is possible, but is not the norm.
