The White Flower II is described in stories as being a circular ship with 25 floors to it, while having a circular gate: a giant zero-width gate that allows vessels to travel from two discontinuous points in space. But this simple description has resulted in two different interpretations between Gre7g Luterman and Rick Griffin.

Spherical Ship
In Gre7g's stories, the White Flower II is a spherical ship which has spans that hold a ring for the gate, set up beside the ship. It has a diameter much, much larger than the WFII's to allow for full-size krakun ships to traverse through without difficulty.
<div><ul>
<li style="display: inline-block;"> </li>
</ul></div>

<div style="clear: both"></div>
Ring Ship
In Rick's stories, the gate is integral to the ships design, and all the living spaces, components, and industry are placed along the circumference of the gate, making a toroid-shaped ship. In this shape, the gate is always rigid. The ship flies with its main tower making up the leading direction forward, with the ring flying level with the plane of travel.

Interior
Decks
The White Flower contains 25 decks, stacked one on top of the other. At the lowest level, there is the Recycler, an important part of making sure life can happen aboard the ship and one of the three components of the Trinity. Additionally, the last level contains the barracks, an uncomfortable field of bunks that serve as free bedding for those without the ability to provide for themselves. On the first deck, one can find Topside, the one location of aesthetic greenery on the ship, with one fully grown tree and a lush lawn. Additionally, this level has the bridge, high class restaurants, and bridge officer housing. From this beauty of the top level and the grossness of the bottom level, there is gradual striations of socioeconomic environments across the height of the ship. Geroo are very commonly trying to achieve residence and employment in higher floors as a form of literal upward social movement.

The ssarith were developed by Rick Griffin while adapting story ideas from the undeveloped story concept Snakes Conquer Earth to Hayven Celestia. Previous to their appearance in Hayven Celestia, the ssarith (not named such yet) appeared in the short story Sissthra. (Please don't look it up, it's not that good.) The ssarith first appeared in Hayven Celestia in the game Under One Sky.
Reproduction
Ssarith are an egg laying species who lay on a seasonal basis. The ssarith do not have any genders, all members could lay eggs. Ssarith reproduce asexually. Instead of exchanging or depositing specific cells made for reproduction, any cells from another ssarith, introduced anywhere in the body, can be used. DNA is stripped from cell material and then chromosome pairs are recombined. This can be done an arbitrary number of times with additional material. The success rate can be somewhat low as a result but it results in an offspring with one, up to an arbitrary number of parents. Ssarith don't track their family through parentage, they track by clutch. Parthenogenesis is possible, but is not the norm.

Writing Technology
Technology is a thing we would encourage people to play with freely, but as a hard-ish science setting, it is preferable that any technology or superscience that is invented or displayed does not break the established rules of the universe.

Impossible Technology
First to describe a number of things technology cannot accomplish in the Hayven Celestia universe: while such means are only theoretically impossible, they have been studied for millennia by, at minimum, krakun scientists, but haven't resulted in additional breakthroughs, so any violations require significant justification, because otherwise these technologies are considered setting-breaking.
* FTL travel or communication, except by means of gates. Even with space-folding, it is impossible to pass the lightspeed barrier to any practical degree, either through relativistic means or otherwise. The only way around this is via wormhole gates that allow instantaneous travel, which must be constructed with both ends in place first.
* Planetside wormhole gates. Wormhole gates cannot be built planetside without creating a host of problems, and so require construction in space. They also have a minimum diameter of 500m and are very easy to detect.
* Other methods of instantaneous teleportation besides gates.
* Total mind control devices. The brain of (most) any intelligent, sapient creature cannot be hacked with any reliability. This means it is impossible to perform "clean brainwashing" where the subject will obey all orders without question.
* Brain uploading. There is no way to reliably copy the brain of any individual beyond superficial skimming (aka no brain uploading to computers or other wetware), and computerized augmentations for the brain (should they exist) are very limited in ability.
* Time travel... at least of the easy jump-into-a-machine-and-go-into-the-past variety. Time travel can be used so long as it's implementation as technology is extremely limited and the canon timeline is not altered in any significant way.
* Interplanetary crossbreeding. Sorry, it's just too silly. See Genetic Engineering if you would like the closest approximation of this.
* Universal translators. There is no easy, automated way to translate one language to another seamlessly and on the fly. Characters need to learn the languages of one another, use an intermediary language, or otherwise speak through a translator.
* Food replicators. There are no known manufacturing methods that can create food from stray particles any more easily than growing it would involve.
* Air-tight force fields. There is no consistent, sustaining energy field that on its own can stave off a vacuum.

High Drawback Technology
These are technologies that (without severe restrictions) cost more than the benefits they provide, or have a very low ceiling on their usefulness.
* Robots. Universal robots are absolutely valid to include, but the more sophisticated they are the more expensive their upkeep is. In almost all cases, a biological laborer is going to be much more cost-effective.
* Mechas, while easily constructible, are not practical instruments of war. Most mecha that would be used are going to look like power loaders as best.
* Brain-in-a-Jar. This is technically possible and within the means of someone relatively well-off. It's also considered a terrible fate. The brain can be fed simulated sensations but it is a very delicate process. Some species take to it easier than others--krakun can be preserved for a rather long time like this.
* Translation software. I'm noting this here because, in part for story reasons, automatic translations are rarely considered "good enough". They can be used in a pinch, but in general each species' language, having evolved on different planets entirely, are considered to be so different from another's that automatic translation cannot readily make up for the difference without an AI being involved. As such, automated translation can usually only give a rough estimate as to the topic of a conversation and rarely the details.
** (conjecture: Automatic translation may be more useful between a single given species's multiple languages, as they would be considered to be much more related.)

Standard Technology
These are technologies that may have benefits that justify the costs (though the costs are still gonna be weighty).
* Cybernetics with the asterisk that cybernetics are less preferred compared to cloning. They are useful in cases where the cybernetic replacement needs to do something beyond its natural capabilities (such as cybernetic lungs) but they aren't capable of granting superpowers. Someone with a cybernetic arm isn't gonna be super strong when an actual punch using the whole arm would tear it from its socket.
* AI. Artificial Intelligences are very advanced, to the degree they can think and reason on par with biological life, but have limitations in their scope. In some cultures, these are considered to be living beings. The main downsides, and the reason that krakun began a system of slavery as an alternative for menial tasks, are threefold:
** AI can be just as willful as living beings, acting on their own and disregarding their intended programming--and an AI, being superintelligent, can become a very powerful threat if it decides its masters are not worth serving.
** If programmed in such a way as to mitigate its willfulness, AI have a bad habit of going insane. A powerfully intelligent AI may be more controllable if placed inside of a sandbox with its inputs limited, but if the AI breaks out of that sandbox it can experience an existential crisis, or worse.
** If programmed in such a way as to mitigate its intelligence, AIs can be hacked with relative ease--all it takes is another, smarter, faster AI (or a very skilled hacker) to do the job. While this doesn't mean lesser AI serve no purpose, they generally cannot be given control of or access to critical systems without risk of opening up those systems to quick sabotage by altering an AI's allegiance.
** Krakun, as a rule, shun the use of AI.
* Brainwashing devices. While the brain cannot be directly controlled it can certainly be heavily influenced. Devices can easily adjust the hormonal state of the brain and body and cause pain/pleasure in response to stimuli, or sometimes just thoughts. While common, these devices clearly cause a great deal of stress and can't be used en masse reliably.
* Cloning. Note that cloning in HC does not duplicate the mind of the individual in question, only their body. This is very useful for medical technologies, but is in general going to be less effective than standard breeding for labor forces.
* Brain transplants. A brain can be transplanted to a cloned body, but this only refreshes the body and not the individual's age. A healthier body can possibly help someone reach the listed maximum age for their species, but due to various factors the brain will still eventually break down irreparably. For obvious reasons, brain transplants between species is not viable.
* Quick healing. Possible to dunk someone in a tank of blue goop and get them repaired much faster than normal, but rather expensive. Some more modest tech can be used to speed up healing though--for instance, medicine can cut the amount of time needed to heal a broken bone in half.
* Genetic Engineering. There are clear limitations to this--for instance, in krakun society in general, genetic engineering is ubiquitous, and almost all krakun have maximal health, intelligence, and longevity, which means they've hit the upper limit of how much more they can squeeze from this tech without changing their nature of being. There is probably no amount of genetic engineering that'd make anyone more powerful than a krakun.
* Powered shields, including personal shields. The main drawback is that these devices are extremely power-hungry. Without toting around a generator, a personal shield will only last a few seconds, and has a maximum amount of force it can resist. Even planetary shields can't stop something with sufficient mass and momentum in its tracks.
* Cloaking devices, including personal cloaks. These can render something invisible or overwrite it with a convincing holographic image. However, there is no cloaking tech that can defeat all known methods of detection, and its usefulness in space combat is going to be limited.

Low Drawback Technology
These are technologies that more than make up for the cost of implementation (assuming the cost can be met; some of these technologies have a very large upfront cost).
* Anti-Gravity and other forms of gravity manipulation. Antigrav devices, while expensive, are very common and used in all sorts of things esp for safety reasons. Space elevators are helped significantly by the inclusion of antigrav.
* Perfect seal helmets and rebreathers. I'm gonna include this one here because it is probably, in a strict hard sci-fi sense, very unlikely. Helmets and rebreathers can be made both fully sealed and fully comfortable for the wearer without needing any additional suiting, and can be put on and taken off relatively easily. This allows species who have partial compatibility with other atmospheres to move freely in them without all-concealing suits.
* Medical foam. First aid supplement. Can plug wounds anywhere between small cuts and large gaping holes without causing toxic shock, allows for natural healing to take over or can be used as a stop-gap before assessment and repair by professionals. Application is dry and sets within moments, it flexes with skin and excess material sweeps away easily.
* Gates. Gates use large wormholes to connect two specifically defined points in space, with one gate at each end. The wormhole's "frequency" factors into them connecting to one another across the galaxy. Gates can change their frequencies to find other endpoints.
** As noted above, gates must exist in the vacuum of space in order to function correctly.
** Gates can be of different sizes from between a half-km in diameter (most common) to 1km (very rare); most ships are built with these gate size limitations in mind. When two gates of different sizes connect, the resultant opening is the size of the smaller gate.
** Warning: Do not interrupt the gate's operation while a ship is passing through it. Known side effects include radical spatial displacement--be it in the third, fourth or fifth dimension.
* Vat-grown meat. While considered not the best it is a fairly straightforward process and a highly useful method to make meat at scale.
* Total matter recycling. Recyclers can take nearly any three-dimensional object and reduce it to its constituent atoms without releasing any excess energy and which can be filtered and separated easily. Planets with sufficient technology to build them often have industrial-sized recyclers to handle their waste.
** Note also that this technology doesn't imply being able to make something out of those broken atoms; fabrication still largely needs to take the long way around.
* Safe fusion power with a large number of different reaction types, from noble gases to metals. Modern planetary systems are generally considered to have practically unlimited power generation when it comes to handling the day-to-day business of citizens.
* Non-relativistic space travel. A stutterwarp engine can fold space immediately in front of a ship very quickly and rapidly, allowing the ship to move without changing its frame of reference. This technology has an upper limit however; most stutterwarp drives cannot exceed an effective speed of 0.8c and none can exceed 0.96c.

Weapons
This list is of course not exclusive and you can invent weapons of varying practicality. Weapons listed are generally going to be considered more-or-less practical for their purposes--obviously, characters can wield swords and it still be cool but it's not gonna be the most effective option.
Handheld weapons
* Plasma guns lob a volley of ultra-heated material. Can come in a wide variety of ammunition types.
* Glass guns, like plasma guns but with a lower thermal maximum for safer use aboard starships.
* Coil guns shoot flechettes at an extremely high velocity. Great for killing in open fields, very bad for ship interiors.
* Laser guns shoot directed light energy. Note: without something to reflect off of, lasers are near-instantaneous and invisible. If you want something visible, use plasma. Laser guns are the most viable weapon for silenced attacking. Downside is that laser weapons often include a charge time to approach killing power.
* Taser guns fire a bolt that injects a pre-determined amount of electricity into the target. Largely non-lethal.
* Pip guns flood a target's nerve endings with an excruciating amount of pain; leaves no damage or other marks.
* Sonic guns fire a directed shockwave burst. Also usually safe to use aboard ships, most useful at very close range.
* Ballistic guns are your normal bullet launching weapon propelled via chemical means. You are totally allowed to use non sci-fi weapons in your sci-fi. In this case, chemically launched bullets still have the advantage of being self-contained ammunition instead of relying on the gun's own integrity to work. Some improvements over modern ballistic guns may include:
** Caseless bullets (no casing to eject)
** Minimized recoil
** Powder-free chemicals (no powder burns)
** Multi-size barrels (can take ammunition in a range of sizes)
** Built-in silencing (Note that chemical explosions are never going to be all THAT silent, but they can minimize the amount of noise transferred to the user at the very least)

Ship weapons
* Laser cannons are short-range weapons--light disperses over space and loses effective power quickly.
* Plasma cannons are medium-range weapons.
* Rail guns are long-range weapons. Note they can't get matter that close to lightspeed, so while a railgun can be very damaging it is far from planet-exploding amounts of power.
* Missile launchers are long-range weapons with the potential of much larger payloads, but they are also the slowest option and easiest to intercept.

The Trinity
None of the trinity technologies are unique to the trinity; however, krakun engineers have discovered multiple ways to implement these technologies, and in in the case of the trinity, make them completely dependent on one another. Since in the trinity, every device must work simultaneously in order to work at all, all gate ships utilize trinity technology in order to make it impossible for their operators to escape.
Gate
Gates use large wormholes to connect two specifically defined points in space, with one gate at each end. The wormhole's "frequency" factors into them connecting to one another across the galaxy. Both gates must be powered and operational, otherwise the wormhole evaporates. Do not touch the sides and do not get caught in the middle of a wormhole during shutdown.
Recycler
Recylcers are very common in the galaxy, though krakun recyclers are perhaps the most efficient, able to dissolve nearly any material to atoms or molecules. The atoms or molecules are then fed into outflow collectors, which can then be used to reconstitute any number of materials. Do not enter the chamber while it is operational.
Drive
Drives use space-folding technology to move without gaining velocity/acceleration or running into problems of relativistic speed. However, the effective speed at which this can be accomplished is still well below c-- 0.96c is the absolute fastest that drives can operate, and since the ships do not gain real acceleration from drive hopping, this ceiling is due to the frequency that the hops can be performed.

This technology has an upper limit however; most stutterwarp drives cannot exceed an effective speed of 0.8c and none can exceed 0.9c.

However, the effective speed at which this can be accomplished is still well below c-- 0.9c is the fastest that drives can operate, and since the ships do not gain real acceleration from drive hopping, this ceiling is due to the frequency that the hops can be performed.

Arrunian

Millerdark: Arrunian Species

Physiology
Arrunian comes from a portmanteau meaning “split/spread” and “ocean horizon”, culminating in “those that spread across the ocean horizon”. Being amphibious creatures, the arrunians historically split their lives between resting on land and hunting in the sea. They are obligate pescatarians, regularly consuming muscular fish, shellfish, and some small aquatic mammals. Infrequently, they will supplement this diet with fruits that naturally grow on tall beach trees, or grains grown in shallow pools on land. They require a large amount of salt, due to adapting to their environment. If they consume rations designed for most other species, an arrunian will lack a necessary amount of sodium, and develop issues with their neurotransmitters. Issues include dizziness, inattentiveness, and tiredness. Days of this malnutrition can result in hallucinations, delirium, and eventually death.
The arrunian atmosphere is a mix of oxygen, nitrogen, and chlorides. These chlorides are not necessary to an arrunian’s biology and are harmlessly removed. Due to chlorine sharing a periodic group with bromine, this makes arrunians capable to live in anup environments without much issue, usually just everything “smelling weird” to the arrunian.
Arrunians wear a minimum of clothing in most settings, both on and off their homeworld. They are able to manipulate tools and technologies between the thumb-talons on their wings and the bony base of their primary feathers. They also manipulate things by grasping them with their beaks. These allow them just enough dexterity to crack open mollusks and create fire.

Flight
Arrunians are capable of impressive feats of flight, able to stay airborne for several hours and upwards of a day in extreme cases. They are not very fast under their own power, and typically glide on thermals and trade winds to conserve energy. While they can fly between different islands in a single archipelago, sailing or steam ships are required for anything more than a few hundred kilometers apart. When hunting, they fly above the water and steeply dive to capture prey that drift too close to the surface. Arrunians can also swim from birth, using their light wings as flotation buoys.

Reproduction
Arrunians reproduce sexually, usually taking mates for life. A clutch of typically 1-3 eggs are laid after 2 to 3 months of gestation. The eggs are further incubated for another 9 months, with both parents sharing the responsibility of keeping them warm. There are numerous sources of artificially providing the eggs warmth, but most people believe it’s correct to do it “the natural way,” and “bond with their unhatched children.” After hatching, the young eyases are cared for by their parents until they’re able to fly on their own at about 16 years. The children reach sexual maturity at around 30 years old, and can expect a natural lifespan of about 160 KY, with records above 300.

Culture
The arrunian homeworld is 93% covered in water. Despite their proclivity for the sea and air, the arrunians require land in order to raise young, build homes, and perform most of their daily tasks. It is because of this scant resource that arrunians are extremely territorial. While still being able to hold onto the bonds to family and co-citizens, arrunians foster an extreme jingoism for those outside their borders. Fighting over the conquest of land is nearly a constant part of arrunian culture. Plays performed in cities’ theatrons depict glorious war heroes, monologuing about their love for their country and its people. While many storylines stay the same, names of the protagonist and antagonist nations are often changed based on the current venue. A few alliances exist, usually for the sake of mutual defense against a larger, third nation state. Those that are uprooted by the war effort are expected to move back to within their countries borders, they are not subsumed into the advancing culture. This leads to a rural nomadic lifestyle for those that habitually live on national borders. Hence, most arrunians live either 1. In or very near their nation-states capitals, or 2. Near the ocean, where they can’t be pushed back any farther. Besides war and theatrics, the arrunians spend their time taking care of their family, fishing, building, and worshiping their monotheistic god. This deity is made up of the four smaller gods that each represent a building block of their theological universe: water, stone, air, and sun.

Technology
The krakun introduced many advanced technologies to the nation states that allied themselves to the scally overlords (hint, it was all of them). No one nation was given everything. If the krakun had, the rest of the world’s population would see them playing favorites and turn against the space lizards. But due to their unwillingness to share the tech, there are extreme technological differences between different states. Some have advanced pisciculture farms, rearing the foodstuffs for whole continents, but their lack of weaponry means they are often raided for these supplies. Some nations have advanced weaponry, but their lack of farming equipment means they can’t easily sustain their armies. Some nations have been given advanced seastedding colonies to live upon the sea itself. But their lack of training and miscellaneous resources means they haven’t been able to sustain these cities, and many are now shanty towns inhabited by war refugees. For places that have been untouched by the krakun’s technology, they utilize coal-fired stoves, lanterns fueled by sea creature blubber, and steam-powered looms.

Nation States
There are 702 independently recognized nation states on the arrunian homeworld. Despite their pride in themselves and disgust with each and every other one, all the governments are run similarly. Each one is governed from a single capital city, where representatives from across that nation gather to discuss policies. A single Head Speaker leads the discussion and calls for votes from the representatives. How the representatives are chosen, and how much executive power the Speaker holds changes per nation, but the basic setup is the same. These senators meet in an open air building with an open auditorium for any citizen to sit in, watch, and listen.

Architecture
Arrunians pride themselves on many things, not the least of which is their architecture. Many of the nation’s controllers meet in large, drafty limestone buildings. The material is often harvested from the cliff sides of islands, owing its strength as a building material to the fact that the weathering of the ocean removes any weak spots. Government buildings are traditionally built at the highest elevation of a nation, as that is seen as the location closest to the sky, the way by which words, and thus government decrees, flow outward. For most domiciles, aluminum, steel, and wood are the go to. They’re typically raised off the ground on struts to avoid flooding, and have large, swooped roofs as a place for an arrunian to land or take off. While government buildings are placed up high, many arrunians live in sprawling harbor towns. For very small inhabited islands, it is not unusual for the entire circumference of the island to be turned into an unbroken harbor city. Larger cities can be over a hundred kilometers of ports, marinas, fishmongers, and shipyards. For those that have been displaced from their homes, the krakun have started granting seastedding settlements to the arrunians. These sleek floating villages made of galvanized aluminum and titanium glass have all the water purifiers, green houses, and housing to be self-sufficient. Despite all appearances, they are seen as shanty towns, for those who have lost the favor of their nation, and therefore belong to no nation-state.

Krakun Intervention
The krakun discovered the arrunian from a geroo gateship roughly 450 KY ago. This makes them a very young species onto the galactic stage, and their integration has barely even started. Krakun ambassador Kerplek is the main contact point for all things arrunian, an assignment she devastatingly abhors. Despite their many plots and schemes over the last half a millennium, the krakun have been unable to vassalize or peacefully incorporate the entirety of the arrunian species. While many of the different nation states on the planet have tried to ally themselves with the krakun, as soon as they see almost any other nation also swear their allegiance, both nations resort to squabbling and the whole arrangement falls through. Krakun authority has not yet deemed it necessary to violently conquer the planet, so fruitless negotiations continue. Krakun interference often takes the form of aiding those few arrunian nations that do swear fealty, and performing subterfuge on those that refuse to side with alien outsiders. Occasionally, the krakun will benefit from a situation where arrunians, especially war refugees, are sent offworld as prisoner slaves. These slaves perform well as couriers and pack mules due to their strength, size (compared to mammalian races), and innate ability to fly. Rumors and stories among the krakuns’ mammalian races about arrunians being used as flying mounts are pervasive, with a few movies and books being created in slave communities about the idea.

There are many sentient races in the Hayven Celestia universe. With only a few exceptions, most planets that support intelligent life only bring about one form of it, and so unless noted each race has exactly one native homeworld. While intelligent life is relatively rare, the galaxy is a very big place and has been explored for a very long time and so possesses an abundance of examples.

</gallery>

Anup
* Tall (~3m) canid race with long ears and uniformly short, dark fur.
* Breathes bromide compounds. Can have skin contact with oxygen-nitrogen environments without issue.
* Culture
** Find it very impolite (overly intimate) to use hands in direct reference to others, including touching, pointing, or making gestures. Instead, they use rods for such actions.
** Anup rods are plated with a highly conductive gold alloy and are heavily personalized; since the computer age they encode their rods with a digital signature in lieu of using a handprint or other method of identification.

Arrunian
* Avian race capable of flight. Typically blue topcoat with white undercoat and sharp yellow beak and talons.
* Two legs, two wings, walks on talons and "hands" of wings

Coosa
* Tanuki-like species. They have very round and bouncy bodies.

Fisi
Geordian
* Medium-sized (~1.7m) felid race.

Geroo
* Geroo Religion and Lore
* Strands
** Communicators/computer terminals/wallets worn in a holster on the left bicep (typically).
** The geroo call their communicators strands because the connectedness they feel "weaves the people into a tapestry."
** When sitting down with friends, geroo consider it polite to remove their strands and set them face down on the table to indicate "you have my full attention."
* Currency - Credits (written &#8354;5 to indicate five credits) are stored electronically on their strands. Geroo transfer money from one strand to another by tapping them together.

Haske
*sabertooth tiger race.
*medium-sized, long furred, and adapted to live in frigid environments

Hekiru
*Small-sized (~1.2m - 1.5m) vulpine race.
*Language consists of sign language. Chirps and chitters are used to modify the meaning of certain signs.
**Hekiru can be taught to speak.

* Tall (~2.2m) leonine race that grows famously long manes.

Montrose
* Moongose-like species. Males are ~1.5m tall, females are ~2.1m tall.

Mysa
* Very small (~0.4m) mouse-like race, usually living within the slums of Liotec and often used as (mostly willing) lab subjects by the Lio.

Polatosha
* "Flying squirrel" sapient species.

Sourang
* Long-bodied species largely considered vermin by the krakun, but in actuality fully intelligent and civilized. Able to modify their own DNA.

Turek
* Mysterious saurian race known largely by reputation, enemy of the krakun

Kyacoatl
*canine race standing around 1-2 meters in height.
*Wear masks to conceal faces as a cultural religious tradition, those without masks are seen as outcasts or slaves.
*Worship a goddess named Alamanotl, there are smaller children gods of hers which are also revered such as Shino (Wisdom) and Shaolyotl.

Ursar
